Expert microbiologist Keith Redway to speak at The Cleaning Show 2019

Brussels, Belgium – 6 March 2019– Keith Redway, Emeritus Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Westminster, and member of the ETS Scientific Expert Panel, will deliver a presentation on ‘The impact of hand-drying options in healthcare environments’ at The Cleaning Show to be held at ExCeL, London later this month.

His presentation – from 11:30-12:00 on Wednesday 20 March – will compare the efficiency and hygiene of different hand-drying systems, including electric dryers and towels. It will use data and video from scientific studies demonstrating how the choice of hand-drying system affects both the number and spread of microbes on the hands, and the contamination of users and the washroom environment. He will present resultsfrom his own published scientific studies on the hygiene implications of different hand drying methods, and also results from the latest multi-site study carried out in hospitals in France, Italy, and the UK.

Commenting on his presentation Keith Redway states, “studies prove that the hand-drying system offered in washrooms should be carefully chosen, especially in healthcare environments, such as hospitals, clinics, and care homes, where hygiene is paramount.

We are delighted that Keith Redway is sharing these findings at such an important event,” says Fanis Papakostas, Chairman of ETS. “The role of proper hand drying after hand washing is crucial in upholding the very highest hygiene standards, and it is vital that decision makers are in full possession of the facts when choosing hand-drying options in public washrooms.

Held every two years, The Cleaning Show is UK’s largest trade event focused on Cleaning and Hygiene, welcoming over 4,000 visitors. It gathers stakeholders from across the sector including contract cleaners, facilities managers, healthcare estate managers, hospitality, leisure and retail managers, public service providers, local government, and distributors.

This year’s show takes place over three days from 19-21 March 2019, and comprises both an exhibition showcasing the latest healthcare hygiene products, and a conference at which key industry issues will be discussed. Further information can be found here: https://cleaningshow.co.uk/london
